Bhomra e-Port Management System goes Live as Bangladesh’s Landmark in Trade Facilitation

The much-anticipated inauguration ceremony of the Bhomra e-Port Management System under the “Digitalisation of the Border Procedures at Bhomra Land Port (DBLP)” project was held at Bhomra Land Port, Satkhira on July 4. This event marks the Goi-Live of the e-Port management system at Bhomra Land Port, a crucial advancement in Bangladesh’s trade facilitation infrastructure, aligned with the national vision of creating a Smart Bangladesh. The system aims to initiate digitalisation efforts in promoting simplification, modernisation, and harmonisation of trade processes in land borders.

The ceremony was attended by the Honourable State Minister of Shipping, Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, as the chief guest, along with Mr. Ashrafuzzaman Ashu, MP (Satkhira-2), Mr. Dr. A.F.M. Ruhal Haque, MP (Satkhira-3), Ms. Laila Parvin Sejuti, MP (Female reserved seat-13, Satkhira), Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman of Bangladesh Land Port Authority, Commodore Arif Ahmed Mustafa, Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner of Satkhira, Mr. Motiur Rahman Sidique, Superintendent of police of Satkhira, Ms. Macarena Torres Rossel, Deputy Director, Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation, Mr. Benjamin Lang, Director of Global Programmes at Swisscontact Global, and Mr. Mujibul Hasan, Country Director of Swisscontact Bangladesh.

A live demonstration of the e-Port Management System showcased its capabilities in improving port operations. The project was officially handed over during the ceremony, symbolising the beginning of a new era in Bangladesh’s trade facilitation. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman of BLPA. He extended his gratitude to all stakeholders for their unwavering support and dedication to the project’s success.

The Bhomra e-Port Management System aims to digitalise port procedures, thereby enhancing efficiency, reducing delays, and promoting a seamless trade process. The initiative, a collaborative effort involving the BLPA, the Ministry of Shipping, Swisscontact, and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation, is expected to significantly impact the private sector by fostering inclusivity, enhancing efficiency, and building credibility. This, in turn, is anticipated to boost revenue generation and contribute to the overall economic development of Bangladesh.
